ABOUT UCEED
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay conduct the national level examination UCEED which stands for Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design, to take admission to the B. Des course at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur. The admission will occur on the basis of UCEED 2023 scores through the joint seat allocation process. The entrance exam will be conducted in 24 cities across India.
UCEED exam pattern
UCEED is a total 3 hours exam of total 300 marks. UCEED divided into two parts- part A and Part B
Part A- this part is online computer based test which will consists questions like MCQ, MSQ, NAT. The duration for part A is for 2 hours and 30 mins. This part will have total 68 questions with the mask of 240.
Part B- this part is pen and paper based test which consists questions on sketching. This is basically a practical part. The time duration of this part is for 30 mins and will have 1 question of 60 marks. PwD candidates who are using the services of a scribe, no assistance in Part B will be permitted.

Syllabus for part A
- Visualization and spatial ability- this includes Pictorial and diagrammatic questions on transformation and manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships, knowledge of practical and everyday mechanical and scientific concepts.
- Observation and design sensitivity- this includes detecting concealed properties in ordinary things, people, situations, and events, and critical thinking. Applying attention to certain details, analysing, reasoning, classifying, inferring and predicting. Detect differences in visual properties and aesthetic outcomes.
- Environmental and social awareness- General awareness of climate, population, water, vegetation, pollution, weather, natural resources etc., and their effect on the design of products, images, infrastructure and environment; also connection of social and cultural connection with design, history of the designed artefact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design responses. History of art, sculpture and literature.
- Analytical and logical reasoning- this includes examining information, be it qualitative or quantitative in nature, and discern patterns in that information; weigh opinions, arguments or solutions against appropriate criteria; find out hidden bias or assumptions, whether evidence And argument support conclusions; Applying logic and structured thinking to deduce from a short passage, which of a number of statements is the most accurate response to a posed question; finally Data interpretation, brainteasers, and patterns.
- Language and creativity- this includes the use of Standard English, Reading comprehension, English grammar, creative thinking in terms of alternatives; answer some innovative options and think out- of-the-box ideas.
- Design thinking and problem solving- this includes the use of visual analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols and understand complexity, problems identification, generate alternatives, evaluate options and selection of solutions.
Syllabus for part B
Drawing- this includes products drawing, people or scenes in proportion drawing, composition, proportion, perspective and shading.
