The Ministry of Textiles includes NIFT, an organization with ISO certification. The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was founded in 1986 by India's Ministry of Textiles. The NIFT Act, passed by the Indian Parliament in 2006, established it as a statutory institution with the authority to grant degrees. To develop a size chart specifically for India, the National Institute of Fashion Technology is working with the Ministry of Textiles. In 2021, the project was finished. There are now 17 NIFT locations in India.
In 1986, the city of New Delhi opened its first campus. Bengaluru campus was established in 1997 after campuses in Chennai, Kolkata, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, and Mumbai did so in 1995. Over the past ten years, campuses have been built in Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna, Raebareli, Shillong, Srinagar, and Panchkula. The newest node to the NIFT network is located in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar Campus.
