What is Defence Design?

Defence is a term we come across day in and day out. But, what is it that crosses your minds when you hear it; The Army, The Navy, The Airforce….!

What if we say, that defence covers a much wider horizon of aspects and where does all that we see and hear come from..!

The Unitedworld Institute of Design (UID), Ahmedabad, as a pioneer in this, brings to you a Bachelor’s of Design (Hons.) Degree course program in defence design.

It is a carefully designed programme that lays the groundwork for future Defence Design aspirants to comprehend how to combine ideas with technical details to form concepts and designs that will change the trajectory of the future. A tactically designed blend of theory and practical components binds the Defence Design course at UID together as it explores a wide variety of products, tools, systems, and tactics used by armed and allied forces around the world. A network of topics comprising mechanical, electrical, electronic, and information technology engineering supports this course. This course is a comprehensive effort in the drive to create a stronger and safer environment for the present and the future due to the defence design studies' inherent multidisciplinary nature.

The world has to be confident in its defence perspective both during times of war and during times of peace, and a thorough and precise approach to defence design at the grassroot level is the main factor in achieving this stance.

What is the Defence Design and Technology Incubator of India (DDTII)

The Defence Design & Technology Incubator of India (DDTII) is an organization that encourages and supports faculty members and students who are engaged in research and development related to defence design. Students can take use of this opportunity to create products, equipment, and military tactics.

Applied Research will be registered and awarded a patent. In addition to supporting centres of excellence like the maker's lab, the university and DDTII also develop students' ideas through incubation support. This course is the first of its kind to be made available in India and it addresses defence needs from the standpoint of product design intervention.

The Defense Design & Technology Incubator of India Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation registered under Section 8 of the 2013 Companies Act, is the organisation that promotes the incubator.

According to the regulations imposed by the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and the Department of Science and Technology, DDTII is an Atal Incubation Center (AIC) and a Technology Business Incubator (TIB) (DST) The DDTII's goal is to encourage cutting-edge start-up initiatives in India's defence design and technology industries. Within the lush Karnavati University campus in Uvarsad, a twin city of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, is where DDTII nestles.

Indian Defence and its Evolution

Despite financial limitations brought on by the current COVID19 pandemic, India's defence budget is a top priority for 2022 and the future. The Indian government is focusing its efforts on enhancing Army funding and border security. The domestic military modernization program in India will receive a sizable share of the funding. The goal is to support domestic military and air force weapon production.

Local producers have been encouraged to start researching and developing cutting-edge and homegrown equipment, weapons, and systems thanks to government support programs. As a result, design students now have a number of chances because Indian defence needs fresh ideas as well as practical implementation. Careers in defence are possible for students with both public and commercial companies.

Importance of Defence Design Course Programs at the Academic Level

Rapid growth in the Indian defence sector has created new job prospects for designers as well, by introducing new dimensions and perspectives. Numerous government, semi-government, and private businesses, including Hindustan Aeronautics, Bharat Electronics Limited, DRDO, TATA, and L&T, are actively seeking recent graduates interested in careers in the design and development of domestic defence applications. India's military start-up ecosystem is booming as a result of government assistance. By participating in cutting-edge and cutting-edge initiatives, students will be able to contribute their skills and learn invaluable information.
