Introduction

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a renowned institution for fashion education that constantly develops in order to stay up with the shifting consumer trends. NIFT was established in 1986 and is the first fashion education institution in India. Through its 16 campuses, NIFT has led the charge in supplying skilled labour to the textile and apparel industry. An Act of the Indian Parliament designated the President of India as the "Visitor" and declared NIFT a statutory institution in 2006. The focus has been on teaching students how to apply their knowledge of art and culture's fundamental strengths to the contemporary and fast-paced world of fashion.

The dynamic and driven students at NIFT receive guidance and support as they take on the chances and challenges that the industry has in store for them. The NIFT graduates have the skill sets necessary to adapt to the changing demands of the industry since they have learned the intricacies of the fashion business, which encompass art, craft, technology, and strategy.

Through exposure to new challenges, innovations, methodologies, technology, and practise from throughout the world, NIFT graduates have gained cutting-edge expertise. The students at NIFT undergo metamorphosis as part of their programme in order to realise their potential, hone their abilities, and foster intellectual development. We are aware of the fact that the fashion industry wants professionals with multi-skill sets, so we have prepared our students in a way that maximises their latent potential. Our dedicated and skilled faculty are drawn from academia and industry.

Campus Placements, which give graduating students from a variety of disciplines in two- and four-year undergraduate programmes the opportunity to accomplish their professional goals, depend on the enthusiastic and steadfast involvement of business groups. The energy, creativity, skill, technological know-how, and legacy of their predecessors combine with that of NIFT graduates to become priceless additions to the predecessors they are inducted into.

Industry Participation

The new NIFT curriculum aims to provide students with a wide range of knowledge and experiences that will hopefully foster a desire and capacity for lifelong learning and position them well in these turbulent times of transition. Industry engagement is envisioned as a learning process that exposes students to a real-world workplace as part of an academic curriculum, assisting them in developing and enhancing their academic, personal, and professional competencies as well as a deeper understanding of the ethics and values that set a good professional apart. Under the direction of both academics and industry, a large portion of the engagement programme is centred on the controlled exposure of the students to the business environment.

Through discussions, workshops, and interactions with internal experts, renowned academicians, industrialists, and NIFT Alumni, a revised curriculum structure for NIFT was developed. This curriculum structure anticipated the necessity and importance of Industry engagement through

1. Interaction in the classroom with business executives and alumni

2. sponsored educational initiatives

3. commercial visits

4. exposure to shows and events

5. Internships

Joint research projects and practical learning experiences in an industrial setting will be conducted within the framework of the programme. Planning Industry Engagements and scheduling them in conjunction with the businesses as per the demand to carry out the new curriculum in the UG & PG Programmes offered by NIFT and its campuses will be crucial to this new viewpoint.
