In 1986, NIFT was founded in Delhi. In its early years, the campus initially operated out of a temporary two-room setup before switching to a full-fledged campus in 1994. The structure was built by Dr. B.V. Doshi and is recognized as one of Delhi's modern icons of architecture. It is based on the idea of a central step-well to collect rainwater and a traditional Indian baoli. At the time, NIFT only offered four programs: two at the master's level (Apparel Marketing and Management & Garment Manufacturing Technology) and two at the bachelor's level (Fashion Design and Accessory Design). The largest campus, Delhi, houses the most students and offers all seven bachelor's and three master's degree programs offered by NIFT.
Being the pioneer institute of design, the campus in itself is an architectural galore to behold.
