About NID DAT

NID stands for national Institute of design, which is undoubtedly the leading Institute of design in India. They offers industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated Design courses both for under-graduates and post-graduates and doctoral levels.

NID organise a two stage national level Entrance examination every year for admission of students for B. Des and M. Des courses provided by NID. The entrance examination of NID is being called NID-DAT. DAT stands for design aptitude test. This examination evaluates the candidate's visualisation skills, creative & observation skills, knowledge, comprehension, analytical ability, et cetera.

Sections on NID DAT

NID DAT has two stages of exam which are NID DAT prelims and NID DAT mains. Candidates need to qualify both of the exams in order to get admission at NID. 

NID DAT Mains

Experts have shared that this NID's design aptitude test is one of the most challenging design entrance exams conducted in India. NID prelims is the first stage of the exam and is the written test. After qualifying prelims candidates can sit for mains. NID DAT mains consist two parts such as: NID Studio test and personal Interview

NID STUDIO TEST

The major part of NID mains is NID Studio test. It is compulsory for candidates to perform well in NID Studio Test in order to secure a seat in the design institute. Studio test for B. Des is different from studio test for M. Des. Studio test is completely based on candidate's creativity skills.

EXAM PATTERN FOR STUDIO TEST

The studio test was conducted in two sessions. 

  1. A doodling exercise where candidates need to complete each given frame with doodles. 
  2. After a short break candidates were given two tasks which they need to perform using the materials provided. Such as making something with material which examiners have provided. 

 

PERSONAL INTERVIEW

The next part of NID mains after studio test is personal interview round. In this round NID experts will rake interview with both tricky and normal questions. Candidates gave to take their work portfolio with them in this round. Experts will ask questions such as:

  • About yourself, about your hobbies
  • Why you want to be a designer
  • Where do you live and speciality of that place. 
  • Why you wish to join NID
  • About your favourite designer
  • You can be asked questions on general knowledge and current affairs
  • You have to talk about your working skills and show them your work portfolio. 

Those who wants to pursue Under-graduation and post graduation studies in design, must apply for the NID DAT. Cracking NID DAT will open up the opportunity to study at NID and do B. Des and M. Des courses.
