NID stands for national Institute of design, which is undoubtedly the leading Institute of design in India. NID is nationally as well as internationally well acclaimed one of the finest educational and research institution which provide Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated Design courses both for under-graduates and post-graduates and doctoral levels.

NID DAT

NID organise a two stage national level Entrance examination every year for admission of students for B. Des and M. Des courses provided by NID. The entrance examination of NID is being called NID-DAT. DAT stands for design aptitude test. This examination evaluates the candidate's visualisation skills, creative & observation skills, knowledge, comprehension, analytical ability, et cetera.

NID DAT has two stages of exam which are NID DAT prelims and NID DAT mains. Candidates need to qualify both of the exams in order to get admission at NID. 

Experts have shared that this NID's design aptitude test is one of the most challenging design entrance exams conducted in India. NID prelims is the first stage of the exam and is the written test. After qualifying prelims candidates can sit for mains. NID DAT mains consist two parts such as: NID Studio test and personal Interview

NID Studio test

The major part of NID mains is NID Studio test. It is compulsory for candidates to perform well in NID Studio Test in order to secure a seat in the design institute. Studio test for B. Des is different from studio test for M. Des. Studio test is completely based on candidate's creativity skills.

NID Studio test tasks:

Candidates have to pursue following tasks in order to crack NID Studio test- 

  • Doodling Exercise
  • Clay Modelling
  • 3-D Model Making
  • Wire Moulding
  • Psychometric Test
  • Story Illustration
  • Personal Interview
  • Thematic Apperception

Exam pattern for studio test

The studio test was conducted in two sessions. 

  1. A doodling exercise where candidates need to complete each given frame with doodles. 
  2. After a short break candidates were given two tasks which they need to perform using the materials provided. Such as making something with material which examiners have provided. 

Those who wants to pursue Under-graduation and post graduation studies in design, must apply for the NID DAT. Cracking NID DAT will open up the opportunity to study at NID and do B. Des and M. Des courses.
