No of course not, NID and NIFT aren’t same at all. 

What is NID? 

NID stands for National Institute of design, is nationally as well as internationally one of the finest educational and research institution which provide Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated Design courses both for under-graduates and post-graduates and doctoral levels.
National Institute for design is the first design Institute in India established by Indian government, Ford Foundation and the Sarabhai family  in the year 1961 at Ahmedabad. It was an autonomous all-India body. NID has been ranked as India’s No. 1 Design Institute. National Institute of Design has it’s total 7 campus all over India, such as, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Gandhinagar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Assam.

  • Courses NID offers:

NID is completely dedicated to designing courses of B. des, M. Des and ph. D. In designing programs. 

  • Admission test at NID 

 NID organise a two stage national level Entrance examination every year for admission of students for B. Des and M. Des courses provided by NID. The entrance examination of NID is being called NID-DAT. DAT stands for design aptitude test. Every part of this examination is based on the candidate's visualisation skills, creative & observation skills, knowledge, comprehension, analytical ability, et cetera. Experts have shared that this NID's design aptitude test is one of the most challenging design entrance exams conducted in India.
NID DAT has two stages of exam which are NID DAT prelims and NID DAT mains. Candidates need to qualify both of the exams in order to get admission at NID. NID prelims is the first stage of the exam and is the written test. After qualifying prelims candidates can sit for mains. NID DAT mains consist two parts such as: NID Studio test and personal Interview.

 

What is NIFT? 

NIFT stands for the National Institute of Fashion Technology was established in the year 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Its a Statutory Institute governed under NIFT Act 2006. NIFT is a expert Institution in fashion education which provide integrate knowledge, traditional arts, contemporary thought, academic freedom, innovations in design and technology and creative thinking. It frequently upgrade its curriculum in accordance with the changing needs of the industry. NIFT, today, has spread its wings across the length and breadth of the country with its 17 campuses all over India.

  • Courses NIFT offers:

NIFT offers bachelor degree courses such as B. Des and B. F. Tech also master degree courses such as M. Des, M. F. M., M. F. Tech

  • Admission test at NIFT

NIFT conduct an entrance examination called The NIFT entrance exam includes three rounds - Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT) and Situation Test. Only after qualifying CAT and GAT, candidates will be eligible to appear for the Situation Test. candidates need to have match with NIFT Delhi cutoff. After being eligible matching cut off, candidates must register for NIFT counselling. As per their ranks in entrance exam and seat availability, Candidates will be allotted for seats at NIFT Delhi.

These are some basic differences between NID and NIFT. But both are the national level Institute offers designing courses.
