Yes, drawing is important and the crucial part of NIFT CAT entrance. NIFT CAT is only for those candidates who are willing to pursue B. Des and M. Des at NIFT. 

WHAT IS NIFT? 

NIFT stands for the National Institute of Fashion Technology was established in the year 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Its a Statutory Institute governed under NIFT Act 2006. NIFT is a expert Institution in fashion education which provide integrate knowledge, traditional arts, contemporary thought, academic freedom, innovations in design and technology and creative thinking. It frequently upgrade its curriculum in accordance with the changing needs of the industry. NIFT, today, has spread its wings across the length and breadth of the country with its 17 campuses all over India.

NIFT-CAT:

Creative ability test. It is a pencil-and-paper-based exam only for B. Des and M. Des candidates. This test is to evaluate candidate's Intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in the development of a concept as well as design ability of the candidate. It will also test the creative as well as innovative use of colour and illustration.

NIFT exam (GAT and CAT) 

Studying fashion design must require drawing skills and creative ability also general ability. NIFT's entrance to take admission for B. Des and M. Des, take both the general and creative ability test of the candidates. 

  • NIFT GAT which is the first part of the exam as well as written exam to test the general ability of the candidates who are willing to pursue B. Des and M. Des. Qualifying GAT will allow candidates to sit for CAT. 
  • NIFT CAT represent to test the creative side of the candidates, which is very crucial for the candidates to have. Qualifying CAT will allow them for the next parts. For B. Des, weightage for CAT is 50% and for M. Des, the weightage is 40%.
  • For the candidates who are willing to study B. des will be call for situation test.
  • The candidates who are willing to study M. Des will sit for GDPI round which is group discussion and personal interview round.

Hi Mahika,

Yes, drawing is very important for NIFT as the candidates who appear for NIFT CAT need to attempt a minimum of three questions of drawing and it actually carries a huge weightage. So, drawing is unavoidable when it comes to cracking the NIFT exam.

Yes, it is important. A NIFT aspirant must possess the skill of drawing and must be able to display creativity and innovation. One must also know color combinations and illustration skills. Drawing and painting skill is more important during the entrance as the NIFFT CAT  exam consists of three drawing questions.

ADMISSION CRITERIA OF NIFT

NIFT usually conducts an entrance exam following an interview or situation test. The exam pattern for the entrance of NIFT consists of CAT meaning Creative Aptitude Test, and GAT meaning General Ability Test which follows Group Discussion or Personal Interview. Candidates who will appear for Bachelor of Design and Masters of Design will have to appear for CAT and GAT, while those who will appear for B.FTech and M.FTech will have to appear only for GAT. Moreover, the candidates of B.Des and M.Des will be further called the Situation Test.

THE EXAM PATTERN OF NIFT

  • The General Aptitude Test examination is conducted in offline mode only.
  • For the candidates who will be appearing for B.Des, M.Des, and General Aptitude Test (GAT), the exam is for 2 hours.
  • For the candidates appearing for B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech, the General Aptitude Test (GAT), the conduction of the exam will be of 3 hours.
  • The mode of paper will be in English language only.
  • For the candidates appearing for B.Des,  there will be a total of 100 questions that will be asked in GAT and for M.Des 120 questions will be asked.
  • For the exam of  B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech there will be 150 questions.
  • There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers.
