WHAT IS NID? 

NID stands for National Institute of design, is nationally as well as internationally one of the finest educational and research institution which provide Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated Design courses both for under-graduates and post-graduates and doctoral levels. NID has been ranked as India’s No. 1 Design Institute. National Institute of Design has it’s total 7 campus all over India, such as, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Gandhinagar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Assam.

NID entrance exam

NID conduct an entrance examination called NID DAT which is a design aptitude test every year to take admission in B. Des and M. Des courses at NID. Candidates, willing to pursue design courses, must apply for NID DAT to get admission at NID. NID DAT is divided in to two different parts: NID prelims and NID Mains.

NID Prelims which is the written part whereas NID mains is the part where candidates have to go for studio test and personal interview.

How to prepare for NID prelims? 

If you are dreaming to study designing course from NID, You need to know about NID, its eligibility criteria, their entrance exam, its pattern and syllabus, everything very well. Here are some tips to get prepare for NID Prelims. 

1. Know the eligibility criteria-

You must check eligibility criteria first before applying for NID. Here are the eligibility criteria-

  • If you want to study B. Des, you must have pass 10+2 exam or 10+3 diploma course from any recognised board in any stream. 
  • B. Des candidates who are from general category must be up to 20 years of age, ST/SC/OBC will get relaxation of 3 years and PwD will get exemption of 5 years. 
  • If you want to study M. Des, you must have pass you graduation degree or bachelor degree course from any recognized university with any subject. 
  • M. Des candidates, who are from general category should have born on 1993, OBC/ST/SC must have born 1990 and PwD must have born on 1988.

2. Know the pattern

NID Prelims which is the written part of NID DAT. NID Prelims are divided into 2 sections: Common Design Aptitude Test and Discipline Specific Test. These two will happen together.

Paper will consist Mix of objective and subjective types of questions of 100 marks in English language. Number of Objective questions will be 22 of 1 and 2 marks and subjective questions will be 4 of 15 and 12 marks.

3. Know the syllabus

Syllabus- communication skills, Compositions, Animation, creativity, Drawing skills for subjective part, general mental ability, Design skills, Environment sensitivity, Visual design, thematic colour arrangement, Proportion and perspective, Abstract symbolism, Memory drawing.

4. Practice very well

Practice according to the given syllabus of Prelims. This paper mainly evaluate you knowledge about creative skills and general aptitude also general knowledge. 

5. Get sample question paper of previous year

You will find thousands of websites on the internet which provides previous year question. This will help you to know about the exam paper pattern and what kind of questions you may face even how to score strategically. 

6. If needed take help from coaching institutions

There are several coaching institutions which helps you to get ready for the exam. You may take admission there in case you want to prepare under a guidance. 

7. Get some books

For GAT paper you must have some good general knowledge and general aptitude books.
