Hi Riya! To get prepare for NIFT Exam, you must know some details about NIFT and NIFT exam pattern. Here are basic tips how you can crack a NIFT exam. But first lets see what exactly is NIFT Exam and its pattern.
NIFT EXAMINATION
NIFT conducts entrance examination for the candidates who are seeking for admission to the B. Des and M. Des courses. The selection process will be based on NIFT examination score. There are two entrance examination organise by NIFT which are- General Ability Test (GAT) and a Creative Ability Test (CAT). However, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.FM aspirants only need to appear for the GAT written test.
- NIFT GAT which is the first part of the exam as well as written exam to test the general ability of the candidates who are willing to pursue B. Des and M. Des. Qualifying GAT will allow candidates to sit for CAT.
- NIFT CAT represent to test the creative side of the candidates, which is very crucial for the candidates to have. Qualifying CAT will allow them for the next parts. For B. Des, weightage for CAT is 50% and for M. Des, the weightage is 40%.
- For the candidates who are willing to study B. des will be call for situation test.
- The candidates who are willing to study M. Des will sit for GDPI round which is group discussion and personal interview round.
Here are the tips to prepare for NIFT exam:
- See the eligible criteria first. Without being eligible according to the rules of NIFT, you cant sit for the exam. For the candidates who wants to pursue B. Des, must need to complete their 10+2 exam with any stream from any recognized board. And for candidates who wants pursue M. Des must complete their graduation degree from any university in any relevant stream. If you are eligible, you can begin with preparation.
- Know the syllabus of GAT and CAT. Syllabus for GAT- Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability and English Comprehension, Analytical Ability and Logical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs. And syllabus for CAT- Design Theory, Colour Terminology, Inspiration and, Design Development, Colour Psychology and Optical Illusions, Elements and Principles Of Design Mood, Theme and Colour, Inter-relationship and Geometrical Form, Innovation in Design, Principles of Composition, Creative thinking and writing, Optical Illusion, Understanding Light and Shade, Visual Logic, Form and Function, Colour, Pattern and Texture, Theme Development, Drawing Fundamentals, Picture Analysis, Memory Drawing, Inspiration and Creativity, Ornaments and motifs, Use of Measurements, Scale and proportions, Optical Illusion, Foreshortening and Perspective, Developing Themes and Colour Associations, Usage of Colour in Compositions, Imagination and Doodling, 3D Visualisation, Presentation Techniques, Expression and Emotion, Exercises on imagination, Lateral Thinking, Story Pictures, Graphics and Pictograms, Innovation and Creation, Design Awareness.
- Collect previous year questions and practice well, so that you will get to know about exam pattern as well as being able to practice.
- Give your creative ability a regular polish, practice making models, drawing as well for CAT and also situation test.
- Keep upgrading your portfolio which will be required in PI round.
