WHAT IS NIFT? 

NIFT stands for the National Institute of Fashion Technology was established in the year 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Its a Statutory Institute governed under NIFT Act 2006. NIFT is a expert Institution in fashion education which provide integrate knowledge, traditional arts, contemporary thought, academic freedom, innovations in design and technology and creative thinking. It frequently upgrade its curriculum in accordance with the changing needs of the industry. NIFT, today, has spread its wings across the length and breadth of the country with its 17 campuses all over India.

How to enter at NIFT? 

First of all you need to check eligibility criteria:

There are various courses offer by NIFT. Those various courses have different eligibility criteria from each other.

  • For B.Des. admissions, candidates must have pass 10+2 exam from any recognised board of secondary exam with any stream. But for B.FTech. candidates must have Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics in their 10+2 examination. 
  • For M. Des a
  • Pass 10+2 examination from any university, school or board, Institute from India or any foreign country but must recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). In this case B. F. Tech candidates must require PCM. 
  • Candidates must Pass the Senior Secondary School Exam conducted by National Open School having a minimum five subjects of any stream. For B.FTech. candidates must have Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. 
  • Candidates must have done Diploma of three or four years recognised by AICTE. B.FTech. applicants can have an engineering diploma.
  • There are age limit to apply for NIFT exam. The age limit is 23 years. There is age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST.

 

NIFT EXAMINATION

NIFT conducts entrance examination for the candidates who are seeking for admission to the B.Des and M.Des courses. There are two entrance examination organise by NIFT which are- General Ability Test (GAT) and a Creative Ability Test (CAT). However, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.FM aspirants only need to appear for the GAT written test.

GAT-

General Ability Test. It’s a Pencil-and-paper-based exam conducts in English and Hindi language.

This test for MDes and BDes has total 5 sections, which are- Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Quantitative Ability, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs. 

This test for B.F.TechM.F.Tech, and M.F.M programs has total 5 sections, which are- Communication Ability & English Comprehension, Case Study, Quantitative Ability, Analytical & Logical Ability, General Knowledge And Current Affairs.

CAT-

Creative ability test. It is a pencil-and-paper-based exam only for B. Des and M. Des candidates. This test is to evaluate candidate's Intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in the development of a concept as well as design ability of the candidate. It will also test the creative as well as innovative use of color and illustration. 

  • There are also situation test for B. Des candidates after qualifying GAT and CAT.
  • GDPI for M. des candidates after qualifying GAT and CAT,for M.F.M and M.F.Tech candidates after qualifying GAT.
  • For B.F.Tech candidates don't have to appear for either situation test or GDPI. 

Weightage:

Candidates need to score above 

  • Creative Ability Test (CAT): 40%
  • General Ability Test (GAT): 30%
  • Group Discussion and Personal Interview: 30%
