Yes Nakshatra! Good skills in drawing and sketching is very much required for NIFT entrance. Moreover, you need to have creative skills in order to get chance at NIFT. 

WHAT IS NIFT? 

NIFT stands for the National Institute of Fashion Technology was established in the year 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Its a Statutory Institute governed under NIFT Act 2006. NIFT is a expert Institution in fashion education which provide integrate knowledge, traditional arts, contemporary thought, academic freedom, innovations in design and technology and creative thinking. It frequently upgrade its curriculum in accordance with the changing needs of the industry. NIFT, today, has spread its wings across the length and breadth of the country with its 17 campuses all over India.

NIFT EXAM 

Studying fashion design must require drawing skills and creative ability also general ability. NIFT's entrance to take admission for B. Des and M. Des, take both the general and creative ability test of the candidates. There are 4 steps of exam which is: GAT, CAT, situation test, GDPI round. 
GAT is to test the general ability by a written exam and CAT is to test the creative ability by giving them practical tasks like intuitive and design abilities, observation skills for developing a concept, innovative use of colour, and illustration skills.
