No, it’s not necessary to have a B. des degree if you want to pursue M. Des from NIFT. 

What is NIFT? 

NIFT stands for the National Institute of Fashion Technology was established in the year 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. NIFT is a expert Institution in fashion education which provide integrate knowledge, traditional arts, contemporary thought, academic freedom, innovations in design and technology and creative thinking. It frequently upgrade its curriculum in accordance with the changing needs of the industry. NIFT, today, has spread its wings across the length and breadth of the country with its 17 campuses all over India. 

NIFT courses

NIFT provides bachelor degree courses such as B. Des and B. F. Tech. Also provide master courses such as M. Des, M. F. M., M. F. Tech. 

> Eligibility for M. Des

• Candidates must graduate from any recognised institutions or university with any relevant stream. 
• Candidates who have done UG design diploma courses from NIFT or NID only. 
• Candidates who have done 3 years diploma courses from NIFT and NID only. 
• Must qualify NIFT entrance examination. 
• Doesn’t need to have a B. Des course from NIFT. 

> NIFT Entrance examination

• NIFT entrance examination consists 2 exams, such as: General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT). Candidates must appear for both of the test in order to get admission at NIFT in M. Des. 
• Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their obtained marks in GAT and CAT. 
• Shortlisted candidates will then appear for Group Discussion and Personal Interview. 
• Candidates will be selected on the basis if CAT and GAT marks and also their performance in GD and PI. 

> Weightage of it: 

Creative Ability Test (CAT): 40%
General Ability Test (GAT): 30%
Group Discussion and Personal Interview: 30%

So, you don’t need to have a degree of B. Des in order to pursue M. Des at NIFT. If you belong from some another stream you can still go fir M. Des! You just have to qualify NIFT entrance.
