Does NIFT require a science background?

Yes, To take admission at NIFT for B. F. Tech. Candidates must belong from science background. But for B. Des, candidates can be from any stream. 

What is NIFT? 

NIFT stands for the National Institute of Fashion Technology was established in the year 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Its a Statutory Institute governed under NIFT Act 2006. NIFT is a expert Institution in fashion education which provide integrate knowledge, traditional arts, contemporary thought, academic freedom, innovations in design and technology and creative thinking. It frequently upgrade its curriculum in accordance with the changing needs of the industry. NIFT, today, has spread its wings across the length and breadth of the country with its 17 campuses all over India.
NIFT bachelor’s degree provide courses such as B. F. Tech and B. Des. 


> To get admission at NIFT for B. F. Tech candidates must be-

  • Qualified in 10+2 examination with mandatory subjects Physics , chemistry and maths from any recognised board. Or must qualify 10+3 diploma course With mandatory subject mathematics. 
  • Have to pass NIFT entrance examination. 

> The course fee for B. F. Tech at NIFT is ₹ 2,86,500 for 4 years. 

> Admission process for B. F. Tech

  • Aspirants have to appear for NIFT entrance exam which includes only General Ability Test (GAT).
  • Candidates have to match with the requisite cut off.
  • After being eligible matching cut off, candidates must register for NIFT counselling. As per their ranks in entrance exam and seat availability, Candidates will be allotted for seats at NIFT Delhi.
  • Document verification and payment is the last stage of the admission process for NIFT Delhi. 

Whereas, for B. Des course, candidates need to pass 10+2 examination from any recognised board with any relevant subject. Even if candidates don’t belong from the science background they are eligible to study B. Des from NIFT.
