ABOUT NID 

NID stands for national Institute of design, which is undoubtedly the leading Institute of design in India. NID is nationally as well as internationally well acclaimed one of the finest educational and research institution which provide Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated Design courses both for under-graduates and post-graduates and doctoral levels.

WHAT IS NID DAT ? 

To get into NID, interested candidates need to crack NID DAT. NID conduct an entrance examination called NID DAT which is a design aptitude test every year to take admission in B. Des and M. Des courses at NID. Candidates, willing to pursue design courses, must apply for NID DAT to get admission at NID.
NID DAT is divided in to two different parts: NID prelims and NID Mains.
NID Prelims which is the written part of NID DAT. NID Prelims are divided into 2 sections: Common Design Aptitude Test and Discipline Specific Test. These two will happen together.
After qualifying NID prelims you can sit for mains. Mains consist 2 rounds, such are: studio test and personal interview round. 

Eligibility criteria to sit for NID mains

  • To be eligible for NID mains first of all you need to qualify for Prelims paper. Syllabus for prelims are- communication skills, Compositions, Animation, creativity, Drawing skills for subjective part, general mental ability, Design skills, Environment sensitivity, Visual design, thematic colour arrangement, Proportion and perspective, Abstract symbolism, Memory drawing
  • Qualifications- Candidates who wants to study B. Des, must pass their 12th examination. And for M. Des candidates needs to pass graduation.
  • Age- General and general EWS candidates must be up to 20 years of age on or before June 30, 2003. OBC-Non Creamy Layer/ ST/ SC candidates get a relaxation of 3 years. PwD reserved category candidates get an exemption of 5 years.

Cracking NID mains- 

You just need basic drawing and sketching skills and creative ideas. Here is the topics on which examiners basically give tasks. 

  • For Bachelor course- Model Making, Doodling, Meeting with Students who Qualified for NID DAT, How to Evolve Ideas, Audio – Visual Exercises, Material Manipulation, Creative Thinking.
  • For master course- Model Making, Doodling, How to evolve ideas, Audio – Visual Exercises, Material Manipulation, Creative Thinking. 

You also need to prepare your very own portfolio for the interview round where you have to show your previous creativity. 

These are the type of education you do need to qualify for NID mains.
