NIFT stands for the National Institute of Fashion Technology was established in the year 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Its a Statutory Institute governed under NIFT Act 2006. NIFT is a expert Institution in fashion education which provide integrate knowledge, traditional arts, contemporary thought, academic freedom, innovations in design and technology and creative thinking. It frequently upgrade its curriculum in accordance with the changing needs of the industry. NIFT, today, has spread its wings across the length and breadth of the country with its 17 campuses all over India.
NIFT conducts entrance examination for the candidates who are seeking for admission to the B.Des and M.Des courses. There are two entrance examination organise by NIFT which are- General Ability Test (GAT) and a Creative Ability Test (CAT). However, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.FM aspirants only need to appear for the GAT written test.
General Ability Test. It’s a Pencil-and-paper-based exam conducts in English and Hindi language.
This test is for M. Des and B. Des has total 5 sections, which are- Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Quantitative Ability, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.
This test for B. FTech, M. F. Tech, and M.F.M programs has total 5 sections, which are- Communication Ability & English Comprehension, Case Study, Quantitative Ability, Analytical & Logical Ability, General Knowledge And Current Affairs.
Creative ability test. It is a pencil-and-paper-based exam only for B. Des and M. Des candidates. This test is to evaluate candidate's Intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in the development of a concept as well as design ability of the candidate. It will also test the creative as well as innovative use of colour and illustration.
There are also situation test for B. Des candidates after qualifying GAT and CAT.
GDPI for M. des candidates after qualifying GAT and CAT, for M.F.M and M. FTech candidates after qualifying GAT.
For B.F.Tech candidates don't have to appear for either situation test or GDPI.
Candidates need to score above
Creative Ability Test (CAT): 40%
General Ability Test (GAT): 30%
Group Discussion and Personal Interview: 30%

B. Des- you have to qualify GAT, CAT and then Situation Test.
M. Des- you have to qualify GAT, CAT and GDPI round.
B. FTech- you have to qualify GAT only.
M. FTech- you have to qualify GAT and GDPI.
M. F. M- you have to qualify GAT and GDPI.
