National Institute of Design (NID) at Ahmedabad and at its Bengaluru and Gandhinagar Extension campuses is an ‘Institute of National Importance’ as per the NID Act 2014 as well as an autonomous Institute under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
After the declaration of results of the Design Aptitude Test, NID conducts two days workshop that includes a series of tests at its campus. This is called the studio test. It carries 100 marks and is in English. It has 50 percent weightage. It is a crucial phase as they select three times of the total number of candidates seats available at NID. You can imagine how competitive it is going to be.
1.) Three-dimensional model making exercise (45 minutes approx) with the given materials like cloth, clay, wire, string, paper, and Thermocol.
2.) Thematic test (few minutes) based on the student’s presence of mind and observation.
3.) Audio-visual test means students have to listen to an audio or see a video clip for a minute, and then answer some questions based on it.
4.) A portfolio review is an important part of the selection procedure. Students carry a portfolio of their own artistic work which includes drawing and sketching, photographs, computer layouts. Students should not refer others’ work as their own as the experienced examiners easily make it out.
5.) Personal interview round assesses a candidate on parameters like career orientation, overall personality traits, achievement in academics, co-curricular activities, communication skills, general awareness, and aptitude.
Hope this helps!
